Dr. Ann Burgin, 5/6 social studies teacher, has brought “Intercultural Competence through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)” to SK! In COIL, students are paired with others of similar ages and parallel courses from different countries, collaborating through interactive digital platforms. This approach allows students to create bonds and relationships with peers around the world through applied, experiential learning. Instructors propose and assign class exercises for students to complete.
This year the 6th grade at SKCS worked with a school in Manizales Colombia, bringing culture into the classroom and broadening the experiences of the students. The students met both synchronous and asynchronous with the students in Columbia on projects that focused on different political systems (Democracy, Monarchy, Dictatorship, and Theocracy).
